On a nice October day, I flew out to San Diego before the USS Wasp reunion in Sacramento. I hooked up with Tex Holland for lunch and asked him to take me out to the Aircraft Carrier Memorial in the harbor at San Diego. Tex always "talked up" the memorial and I thought he'd be a good man to take me there and help me appreciate it. It is a fine piece of work, fitting for the tens of ships and thousands of men and women who served or are serving on them. After we looked it over and I took a photo or two, Tex told me me something about his role having the memorial become a reality. He told me about the other fellows who worked hard on it too, but I have a bad recall for names. It's safe to say that we all appreciate it and so do the families of those who sacrificed it all.
Take a look at these photos and hopefully you'll see too.
I visited the memorial on 8 October, 1999, with Tex Holland.
