Robinson Easterbrook served aboard Wasp as a USMC P.F.C. during WE II. Robinson sent a photo of the Marine Detachment taken on Wasp's flight deck in 1944, while she was moored at Majuro, Marshall Islands. The photo was a little discolored and frayed, but the handwritten names of each Marine and accompanying notes on the back let us know that Robinson hasn't forgotten his buddies.

The downed aircraft smacks into the ocean and disintegrates with an explosion of smoke and water. A caption on this photo is barely readable. It appears to read."JAP GRACE SHOT DOWN OFF THE STARBOARD BOW OF U.S.S. WASP (CV-18)." The photo also notes the Bon Homme Richard (CV-31), was most likely the origin of this series of photos.

Wasp slips past the remains of the downed aircraft and leaves it behind. You may note two types of ship's gunnery and fighter aircraft on the flight deck with folded wings.
